Art Club
PLHS Art Club
- Room: D126
- Time: Every Tuesday from 3:30-5 pm
The PLHS Art Club is open to all high school students and is a great way to
express your creativity. It doesn't matter if you have been doing art your whole life or if
you've never picked up a pencil. Everyone, regardless of your level or preferred style, is
welcome and encouraged to attend. We are here as an open studio environment if you
want to come in and do any type of art. In the spring, we also organize and set up the
PLHS Festival of the Arts, which is held at the High School. We also produce art for the
community. An example of this would be the painted boards out in Trailside Park, which
are painted completely by students. Again, we encourage anyone to show up, no matter
how confident you are in your skills. We would love to have you here!

Debate
Congressional Debate is a competitive high school event that simulates the United States Congress, where students draft, present, and debate pieces of legislation. Participants take on the roles of senators and representatives, discussing bills and resolutions on current national and global issues. The event emphasizes persuasive speaking, critical thinking, and knowledge of parliamentary procedure. Students learn to balance formal debate skills with collaboration, as they must work together to advance or oppose legislation. Through this activity, participants develop leadership, civic awareness, and a deeper understanding of democratic processes. The debate season begins in September and runs through December. Open to Grades 9-12

REEL North Alliance
Our Mission: REEL North Alliance is a student-led school organization dedicated to promoting and improving mental health for students in our schools and community. Our goal is to destigmatize mental health and make advancements in suicide prevention through our student-led general meetings and our community events.
What do we do?
- Community Outreach-We are actively working to end the stigma that surrounds mental health and spread awareness for suicide prevention in our community through the various events we host. These events include: Block Out the Stigma/Green Out volleyball game, Trunk N Treat, Stomp Out the Stigma basketball game, Movie Night Out, and more.
- Education- Through Pequot Lakes High School, students and community members are invited to take the Teen Mental Health First Aid courses. Teen Mental Health First Aid provides REEL students with the tools they need to identify a friend or student experiencing a mental health challenge, through a five-step process.
- Volunteer- As members of REEL North Alliance, we are actively volunteering in REEL events as well as various community events that support mental health. All high school students are welcome to become REEL members.
Our Story In 2022, tragedy struck Pequot Lakes High School: three deaths occurred in two months. One death was of a current student, and two were recent graduates. The first passing was that of Jack Hennies, who took his own life. This was not an easy time for our school or our community. People were ready to take action so our community would not face devastation like this again. The problem was that no system was in place that would allow our community to make the necessary change, hence the formation of our alliance. The term "REEL North Alliance" has more meaning behind it than meets the eye. "REEL" is an acronym for Revealing Emotions Elevating Lives, and is also spelled this way to remind readers of a fishing reel, symbolizing Jack's love of fishing. "North" is a term that resonates with looking up and forward, along with progress and advancement, which we believe are among our central values. "Alliance" suggests that we are a united front, joined together to succeed in our mission, allowing anyone to contribute to our success along the way. Our logo resembles a compass, as it shows you the way forward; it is a symbol of safety and protection, and can guide you if you are ever lost.
- Our Planning Meetings are on the first Monday of the month at 6pm in the Gathering Room
- Our Lunch Meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month during A and B High School Lunches
- 8th grade planning meetings are on the first Friday of the month, and lunch meetings are on the second Friday of the month

Speech
Speech is a competitive organization that rehearses and prepares oral interpretation and public speaking events at local speech tournaments where each performer is judged against performers from other schools. Students are assigned to compete in a specific event. They compete against other teens in that same event, where a neutral judge evaluates them. Their goal is to take first place individually in that event - their performance in the event also affects their team’s overall score. At the end of each tournament, there is an awards ceremony where individual and team medals are passed out to the performers with the highest scores. Although highly competitive, the Speech Team is a great way to make friends while developing necessary speaking and performing skills that will be a great asset in the coming years.
